Pimping my book

I’m breaking the habit of my life so far and actually sticking my neck out in public to promote my essays book, Archaeologies of Consciousness.
Although the book’s technically been out for a couple of months already, the official “launch event” is to happen at the fantastic Treadwell’s Books in Covent Garden, London, on Friday February 29th. It’s free, but you need to book with Treadwell’s to get a place. Things kick off around 7pm, and there’ll be a panel discussion on the intersections between prehistory, magic and academia around 7.30. I’m pleased to be joined by Robert Wallis, Associate Professor of Visual Culture at Richmond University, and (fingers crossed) mischievous mage Phil Hine. Robert’s academic expertise (mixed with his personal engagement in magic practice) and Phil’s extensive magical experience (mixed with his sound appreciation of good scholarship) will hopefully add interesting perspectives to my own fence-straddling. Of course, there’ll be booze and schmoozing a-plenty, too! Hope to see you there.
I’ll also be doing a more informal “Sunday Tea Afternoon” at Libra Aries Books in Cambridge, on January 27th. Details aren’t quite confirmed, but it’ll be around 4pm, with a short talk, Q&A discussion, tea, and probably some cake. Again, it’d be great to see you there if you can make it…
