I'd also say that a lot of 'new age' or 'spiritual' type websites suffer from this aversion to anger, almost like they're conflict-phobic... you have to tread very delicately to get difficult points heard, and if you're point is not & never will be delicate then you may as well just ban yourself & go home... you do get a lot of sensitive people around these places (I'm one micelf!) and the lack of tolerance towards anger is often justified as a way of making sure the meek don't get scared off... it has unfortunate consequences in higher levels of 'group-think' - but this I guess this is fine by most of the weblords who rule these little cyberhavens!

Dreamflesh doesn't appear to suffer in this way, btw.

" an indication that, if even such a left-leaning audience as Glastonbury Festival booed"

Yeah, a random pick of Glastonbury goers, sure. The tent filled up in the last 15 minutes of our performance, it was people coming to hear Clegg. It included - and this was confirmed by people asking him things in his Q&A - LibDem activists. Obvious, really. With all of Glastonbury laid out before them, who'd want to hear Nick Clegg?

On the broader topic, I think people do respect passion in politics. Part of the reason why things like the road protests were so culturally popular was that these people were saying what they thought, they weren't smarming or spinning their line at all.
