Crop circles for fun and profit

The Field Guide cover

Back in the mid-nineties (do shoot me if I say that more than once a year) I happened across a website by some people calling themselves Team Satan. They made crop circles. I’ve never been that interested in crop circles, despite my penchant for paranormality in the West Country, but I always thought Team Satan had the best perspective. They went out and made them. But rather than being wholly dismissive “we did it and fooled the New Agers” folk, they were open about the fact that they thought something strange was going on in them fields, and that their activities were an act of “taking part”.

Or were they joking?

Not sure if that one will (or should) ever be resolved, but Team Satan morphed into the more commercial Circlemakers, and now in collaboration with Strange Attractor, have just released The Field Guide: The Art, History and Philosophy of Crop Circle Making. It seems sure to demystify and enchant in equal measures…
