The Devil & the Goddess eBook
Although my 1997 booklet The Devil & The Goddess: Meditations on Blood, Serpents & Androgyny has been available online for a while as a web page, as the booklet’s out of print and not to be reprinted, I thought I’d follow the recent Verbeia eBook with one of this dense, meandering little work; for easy printing and offline reading. There’s just the one version this time: an A4 format 1.12 MB PDF.
Seeing so many wanton generalizations in this work, promiscuous connections that ignore disciplinary boundaries and may make even non-academics blush, it’s tempting to let a work like this be; at least, to not promote it any more.
But then, this erotic approach to research was always part of the point; and I would consider it a failure if it didn’t seem incautious and improper from the perspective of later years. Nuggets of golden insight can be sifted out of the mass of materials dredged up, but part of the trick in this sort of research always seemed to me to be keeping an engaged love for the process intact. The residue might be something shiny to run off and show to others—but where’s the fun?
Hang on, have I just argued against republishing this as a PDF? Fuck it, it’s there if you want it. If you want to go and write your own, that would probably be better, though.
